Sophia Balagamwala

Sophia Balagamwala is a multidisciplinary artist based in Karachi, Pakistan. Grounded in archives and museum collections, her practice explores the interplay between historical events, personal memories, and fiction. She works across the fields of animation, drawing, sculpture, painting  and publications.

Since 2021, Sophia has run the Kurachee Reading Room, a nomadic, slowly gathered collection of artists’ books, catalogues, zines, and experimental publications. She teaches at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, and is an advisor for the Citizens Archive of Pakistan.
