Alana Hunt

Australia

Alana Hunt makes art and writes. Her life on Miriwoong Country in the north-west of Australia and her long-standing relationship with South Asia shapes her engagement with the violence that results from the fragility of nations and the aspirations and failures of colonial dreams.

While the ideas and intent may be persistent the form and place of Alana’s practice is not static or singular. From one “body of work” a multiplicity of forms arise, responsive to a multiplicity of contexts. Her work tends to speak locally and then make its way with gradual yet accumulating resonance into the wider world—as conversation, image, website, word, book, radio broadcast, newspaper, event, intervention, film and/or exhibition.

Alana has been working on evolving iterations of the memorial Cups of nun chai since 2010, which was published by Yaarbal Books (New Delhi) in 2020. In 2023 she is working towards an essay film project with Northern Centre for Contemporary Art (Darwin) and an exhibition with SPACED at the Art Gallery of Western Australia (Perth).
