Eszter Szakács’s practice as a curator and researcher is often collaboration-based and centers self-organization in art, especially in eras of political oppression. She co-edited with Naeem Mohaiemen Solidarity Must Be Defended (2023), an anthology of visual arts projects exploring transnational solidarity, realized and failed, during the Cold War. Eszter is currently the Interim Artistic Director of de Appel in Amsterdam, and she has taken part in various group-based forms of art organizing, such as the Curator of the Guest Programme of the 41st EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art, made in collaboration with the EVA Team (2025); or as a curatorial team member in the grassroots OFF-Biennale Budapest’s second (2017) and third edition (2021), as well as in its participation at documenta fifteen as a lumbung member (2022).
