Tuesday, Nov 18th
3:00 – 4:00, Yalamaya Kendra
Paola Farran from MMAG Foundation based in Amman and Jessica Lim from Angkor Photo Workshops based in Siem Riep will share their work and explore questions that include; how can we create space for alternative definitions of ‘success’ that are based in local impact and community-driven practices? How do we build institutions centered on artists rather than western canons? What challenges arise when funding structures remain western-leaning while we work to create alternative systems?
This conversation series examines how art ecosystems have been built and sustained in Cairo, Siem Reap, Amman, New York, and Singapore. It explores what it means to redefine success for artists beyond prestigious recognition, maintain non-neutral positions amid oppressive systems, and navigate institutional transitions—asking what longevity means when adaptation, accountability, and care are survival strategies.
