Joyantee Raina

Before joining Pathshala South Asian Media Institute as a photography student, I completed my Bachelor’s and Master's in Women & Gender Studies from the University of Dhaka. Gender has always been my subject of interest, for it's not only an academic field for me but also personal. I have been involved in political activism since my college years. My academic background and political involvement have shaped my understanding of society in many ways. While my current practice primarily utilizes digital photography, I am equally interested in analog and alternative processes.

My inspiration comes from diverse sources, including literature and music. I’m fascinated mostly by the ordinary and the mundane things. Through my work, I intend to understand how people's personal lives are shaped by the larger politics and how people negotiate their identities to balance with the outside world.
